Base Ball Bear

Base Ball Bear is a Japanese rock band from Tokyo that formally began in 2002, although the members assembled in the autumn of 2001. The band, which was initially named Planet, was formed for a one-time performance at a high school culture festival, but they decided to continue playing due to how well they were received at the festival and how much fun they were having. Base Ball Bear made its major debut in early 2006 with EMI Music Japan. Their style influences include Japanese indie rock bands Number Girl and Supercar, and British rock bands such as Oasis. The band has been noted for the "nostalgic" feel of band leader Yūsuke Koide's lyrics, often about teenage life and memories. They are also known for their contributions to the soundtrack of the movie Linda Linda Linda (in which female bassist Shiori Sekine had a leading role) and performing the themes to the anime series Toshokan Sensō and Ōkiku Furikabutte.

The band's former name, Planet, most likely came from a Supercar song of the same name. Their current name also derives partially from a song name. Koide thought of Japanese singer Chocolat's song "Base Ball and Elvis Presley", and suggested the name "Base Ball". Guitarist Yuasa thought it would be better if they added one more word to it, and the rest of the band agreed. They eventually settled on the word "bear".

Suga Shikao

Shikao Suga is a Japanese musician and singer-songwriter from Tokyo. Though he uses katakana for his recording name, the kanji for his name are 菅 止戈男, but the romanization is the same. Suga is his family name and Shikao is his given name.

After graduating from Tokyo Keizai University, he worked as a "salaryman" for four years in the advertisement industry. Debuting with a major label EP album release in 1997, his J-Pop music has jazz, funk and soul influence, coupled with beautiful and moving lyrics.

Several of his songs have been used in the TV anime Honey and Clover, including Hachigatsu no Serenade, Tsuki to Knife and Yubikiri. Yozora no Mukō, the song he wrote the lyrics to, and sung by Smap, has appeared in several Japanese music textbooks. He also did the theme song to the movie xxxHOLiC: Manatsu no Yoru no Yume , Sanagi ~theme from xxxHOLiC the movie~ and the theme song to the xxxHOLiC TV series called Jūkyū-sai. Manatsu no Yoru no Yume has appeared in the recent Death Note live action movie as an insert song. Also, his song Yūdachi was used as the closing theme for the movie Boogiepop and Other and the opening theme for the 2000 anime series Boogiepop Phantom. More recently, Nobody Knows was used as the opening theme of the second season of the xxxHOLiC TV series, xxxHOLiC Kei.

From October 3, 2005, until March 27, 2006, he was hosting a radio program called Night Stories Monday on J-Wave radio station which was downloadable as a podcast.

Matenrou Opera

Matenrou Opera (摩天楼オペラ) lit. 'Skyscraper Opera' was formed in 2007 by Sono and Yuu who were previously the vocalist and drummer of Jeniva. Their first maxi-single was on the OFFICE A to Z label. "Alkaloid Showcase" was released on May 4th, the same day as their first concert, but the single sold out before the concert began.
In late 2007, keyboardist Karen and guitarist Mika left the band and were replaced by Ayame (ex-Ry:dia) and Anzi respectively.
In 2008, after joining the label Sherow Artist Society, the single "Ruri Iro de Egaku Niji" hit number 11 on the Oricon Indies Chart; the EP Gilia hit number 7 and was also released in Europe. Matenrou Opera toured through Europe with Versailles from the end of March to the beginning of April 2008.
